Today I bring you a very special miniature: Njal Stormcaller, the most powerful Runelord of the Space Wolves. A figure full of history in the lore of Warhammer 40.000 and now comes with a spectacular redesign.

I want to start by thanking Games Workshop for sending me this miniature before its release. It has been a real pleasure to be able to paint it with time and love to share it with you.

A tribute to Fenris

From the first glance, this new version of Njal imposes. His solemn pose, the staff crowned by an animal skull, the raven flying over his shoulder, the cape in the wind… everything conveys the runic power and the wild connection with the elements that define him.

I wanted to respect his classic aesthetics, but enhancing some contrasts to reinforce his presence. The intense blue of the armor combines with warm tones in the face, beard and golden details, while the purple of the cape adds an unexpected counterpoint, giving it a mystical and noble air.

Runic energy and a vigilant raven

One of the main focuses of the painting has been the runic staff, which represents the channeler of his psychic powers. I have worked the effect of incandescent energy with a transition from reds and oranges to bright yellow, creating the sensation of runes burning with ancestral power.

The raven, an iconic detail of this character, is painted with satin black tones and touches of cold light on the wings, reinforcing the mystical atmosphere and Njal’s link to the spiritual world of Fenris.

The base: rock, snow and frozen ground

For the base, I opted for a rocky scene with touches of dry vegetation and snow, evoking the icy wastelands of Fenris. I thought it was important that the environment helped to tell the story of the character, and that it was not only a decorative support, but part of the narrative as a whole.

The end result?

Here you have the complete result. I’m very satisfied with how the miniature turned out, especially for how they combine the runic effects, the icy atmosphere and the narrative elements that make Njal such a special character in the Warhammer 40.000 universe.
