In this simple tutorial, we will see how to quickly create lava bases for our miniatures and wargames. In my case, I will use these lava bases for the Salamanders Space Marines chapter, from the Warhammer 40k game.

Let’s Start!

Preparation

Firstly, the bases are prepared adding some cork. In addition, we can add other elements such as stones or rocks.

In this case I used Spellcrow rocksin addition to the cork. They also have all kinds of sizes.

Green stuff

Using green stuff, small balls of different sizes are created and glued to the base. The objective of these small balls will be to create the bubbling lava effect.

PVA glue

Apply a generous layer of PVA glue all over the base. This layer will hide the texture that some bases have, as well as an ideal base to simulate lava.

Result

They are left to dry for several hours. T he result once dry will be the following. The bases are ready to begin the painting process.

In the next tutorial, we’ll see how to paint these lava bases.
