This tutorial shows you how to paint wear and tear effects and battle damage easily on a Space Marine from The Horus Heresy.

For this tutorial we have used an MKVI Tactical Space Marine (Warhammer 30k) from Games Workshop.

Note: This tutorial is a continuation of “Painting a Horus Hereshy Space Marine”.

Lets start!

Create small chips with a sponge and Vallejo Environment Rust Texture 73.821.

You can also apply scratches with a brush using Model Color German Camouflage Black Brown 70.822.

Paint the lower part of the chips with a mixture of Game Color Verdigris 72.096 and Game Color Aquamarine 72.119.

Paint small dots of Game Color Verdigris 72.096 on some areas of the chips to give more depth to the battle damage.

In the gray areas, the same process is repeated with Game Color Neutral Grey 72.050 and Game Color Dead White 72.001.

Dry brush Vallejo Pigments Dark Red Ochre 73.107 on some parts of the armor, paying special attention to the lower areas.

The finished miniature is shown below:
