In this article we will see how to paint a fire flame or fire effects for our miniatures and wargames. To do this, we will use the new Vallejo’s Fire Fury set. This set contains all the necessary references to create fire flames and fire effects.
Let’s Start!
Primer
Firstly, a white primer is applied. Surface Primer White 70.600 can be used by brush or airbrush. If we prefer to use a spray can, Hobby Paint Spray White 28.010 will be used.
Wet blending
Moon Yellow Game Color 72.005 is applied to the bottom of the fire flame .
Model Air Orange 71.083 is applied quickly on the middle part of the flame. With a clean brush and both paints still wet, the wet blending technique is done to create a quick and easy gradient.
Immediately afterwards, Model Color Vermillion 70.909 is applied on the final part of the flame, and the same wet blending technique is done, this time fusing the red with the orange
To achieve a good paint coverage and color gradient, steps 2, 3 and 4 are repeated one more time .
Inner flame
Game Color Moon Yellow 72.005 is applied to the inner area of the flame. It can be mixed with a little water to apply it on all internal parts easily.
Small dots are painted around flames for extra realism.
To achieve more intensity In some internal points of the flame, a mixture of Game Color Moon Yellow 72.005 and Model Color Ice Yellow 70.858 is applied to some specific points inside the flame.
Final details
A dry brush is made on the tips of the flames, using Model Color Hull Red70.985.
At the beginning of the flame, some small dots are painted using Model Color Ivory 70.918, achieving the maximum point of light of the flame.
Finally, a slight reflection of the flames is painted on the metallic parts, using a mixture of Game Color Moon Yellow 72.005 and Model Air Orange 71.083.
